Watch Your Step
There have been a few stories in the news lately about pedestrians getting killed. Now, I'm not saying those people in any way deserved what happened, but some people out there are going to get killed, and I don't know if I'll have any sympathy. I work in the downtown area, and I try and spend my lunchbreak taking walks. I just need the break to get the office and get some fresh air. Sometimes the route I pick will depend on the stoplights. Sure, I could stand here and wait for the "walk" signal to pop up, or I could just go this way and not have to wait! I admit, I do cross the street against the lights, but I look both ways first. If a car's coming, I don't go. If that car would have to slow down because of me, I just wait. Some of the streets are lined with parked cars, or you can't really see down the road because of construction fencing, so at those intersections I just wait until the sign says "walk". It just drives me nuts the people that just stomp their way out in front of a car that has a green light. Either they don't even look or apparently they just don't give a shit. I do often think of Vegas when I see something like that happen. If you've ever been to Vegas, you know what I'm talking about - those drivers will lay on the horn at you if you even so much as think about crossing the street against the light. I'm all about pedestrians having the right of way...if I've got a "walk" sign and you're making a right-hand turn, you'd damn well better wait for me to cross. But these morons just walking out, not even paying attention, your ass deserves to get hit. I'll save my sympathy for the driver!

So Lazy
I've been so lazy the last few days. Yesterday and today I've just come home from work, made a little dinner, and then started watching tv. I know I should go work out, and I know if I did I'd feel good, but yeah, I just don't feel like it. I've been watching some stuff I DVRed. I've tried telling myself why not do something crafty while watching tv. Yep, haven't been able to convince myself to do that either. I'm not depressed about anything, just feeling pretty lazy. Lazy enough that I don't feel like typing anything else!

Feeling Lost
As I was riding away from the parking garage I started to dig through my bag looking for my cell phone. Fortunately I was able to stop at a red light and really dump out the bag and wade through the contents and yep, my phone was not in there. I did have my work phone so I beeped one of the guys in the office and asked him to check and see if my phone was at my desk. He let me know that it was on my monitor stand, and I decided that rather than battling traffic and finding a place to parallel park it would be fine to leave the phone at the office overnight. And even though I have my work phone, I feel so lost without my phone. I actually don't talk on the phone that much, and on occasion I'll text message, but maybe it's the idea of having to go all night without it that makes me feel weird, like a piece of me is missing. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I had a home phone that people could call if they need me. The only people that know my work number are my mom and my brother. Hope no one else is looking for me!

She's Not Old
Yesterday at lunch my mom was telling my brother and I about her recent trip to Target. She was standing in the checkout line behind a woman who was counting on her fingers and talking to herself. She noticed that my mom was watching her, and the lady explained that she had forgotten her list in her car, and she didn't want to run out and get it. She was trying to remember if she had gotten everything. Dropped of the prescription, check. Laundry detergent, check. Mother's Day card, check. My mom, making conversation, told her that she'd bought my grandmother's Mother's Day card on the previous Monday, and that she even stopped on the way home from the store to mail it. The woman's jaw dropped and Mom said the lady's eyes all but popped out of her head. "Your mother's still alive!" "Yes," my mom replied, "She's 78. And my dad's still alive too! He's 82!"
I don't think of my mom as old, especially since my grandparents are still alive, but I guess she is, kind of. She just turned 60 in April. I don't have a hard time accepting that I'm aging, but I do have a hard time accepting the possibility that she may be getting older. Alright, alright, that she IS getting older. I remember when she turned 48 I told her I was just going to say she was 21, and for the longest time I wasn't sure how old she was, even though I knew the year that she was born. Oh well, I'm not going to dwell on her age. I'll put my focus on those 4 grey hairs that I have!
